Instructions for shortening leather or suede trousers

IMPORTANT NOTE
Leather or Suede should only be stuck with Copydex, do not use any other type of glue.
The person who will be wearing the trousers should put them on wearing a pair of shoes that have the average height of heel that they would normally wear.
A second person should then turn the hem of the trousers ‘inside out’ to the length required.
Once satisfied, the length may then be marked on the ‘inside out’ edge of the leather or suede with either tailor’s chalk or very lightly with a ballpoint pen or marker pen.
Once the trousers have been removed, they should be turned inside out and let down to their full length. It is best not to turn more than one inch on the hem, therefore any amount in excess of this should be cut off with a sharp pair of scissors.
Very lightly spread Copydex onto the hem, near to the cut edge, in 2” long sections, ½” deep, leaving gaps of about 1” in between. The hem may then be turned up straight away, being careful not to crease the leather or suede as it is turned. It is a good idea to start at the seams and work round from there.
Leave for at least 30 minutes before wearing.
If you follow the above method it will be possible to unstick the hem and reposition it as long as you have not put the Copydex on too heavily.
We will undertake to shorten any trousers purchased from us, free of charge, if returned with a copy of the purchase invoice and a note to say how much they are to be shortened. We cannot shorten trousers until they have been tried on and approved by you.
